Ohio Mr. Football Mitch Trubisky, graduating early from Mentor, has own UNC signing day

MENTOR, Ohio - The state's best high school football player, Mitch Trubisky, wore a Tarheel hat proudly Friday as he gets set to leave Ohio and head south to Chapel Hill.

Mentor held a mock signing day for the quarterback who is graduating a month before National Signing Day in February.

Trubisky said he chose the University of North Carolina because he likes the school and coaches and believed he would have a chance to play sooner. The Tarheels run a similar type of spread offense to Mentor, which was another influencing factor in his decision.

Trubisky leaves Mentor Saturday.

The senior finished his high school career with more than 10,000 passing and rushing yards combined, as well as 93 touchdown passes.

Trubisky led the Cardinals to three playoff wins before falling to Toledo Whitmer in a Division I state semifinal game.
