Chardon Boys Basketball Season concludes with loss to Brush

Hilltoppers finish season 8-14

EUCLID, Ohio - The Chardon Hilltoppers boys basketball team had their season come to an end on Saturday night with a loss on the court, but a winning spirit in their hearts.

The Hilltoppers lost 74-58 to second seeded Brush at Euclid High School in the Division One District playoffs.

The Hilltoppers were hoping to continue being a key part in the healing process for the school and the Chardon community following a deadly shooting that took place at Chardon High School on Monday morning which took the lives of three students.

Chardon advanced to the second round of the Euclid district on Thursday night with a 78-59 win over Premier Athletic Conference rival Madison.

The Hilltoppers took a three point lead into halftime, but were outscored by the Arcs 48-29 in the second half.

Chardon was lead by senior guard Nick Ruckel with 16 points. Senior guard Ryan Thompson scored 15 points and junior guard Ben Furlich scored 13 points.

Brush was lead by senior forward Pharaoh Brown who scored a game high 20 points. Senior forward Curtis Oakley Junior, the nephew of former NBA forward Charles Oakley, added 19 points.

The Hilltoppers finish the 2011-2012 season at 8-14. The Arcs improve to 18-3.

Following the loss, Hilltoppers head coach Nick Gustin lead his team and the fans in the singing of the Chardon alma mater followed by a Chardon chant as another way to show support for the Chardon community.
