Championship controversy: St. Ignatius shares state hockey championship with Sylvania Northview

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The St. Ignatius Wildcats hockey teams returns home with it's third state championship, but not without some controversy.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association decided to award the Wildcats and their opponent the Sylvania Northview Wildcats as co-state champions after playing to a 1-1 tie after seven overtimes, ten periods of hockey down at Nationwide Arena.

St. Ignatius tied the game at one in the third period on a goal by senior Danny Brogan.

The game was the longest state hockey championship history. The OHSAA made the decision for the safety of the players.
