Kent State University will name Paul Haynes head football coach

KENT, Ohio - NewsChannel5 has learned that Kent State University will name former Arkansas Defensive Coordinator Paul Haynes the new head football coach of the Golden Flashes.

Haynes will be formally introduced at a 2:30 press conference on campus Tuesday afternoon.

Haynes replaces Darrell Hazell who leaves Kent State with the best season in school history. The team will play in its first bowl game in 40 years, when they face Arkansas State on Jan. 6, 2013 in the Bowl.

The former walk-on at KSU played defensive back for Glen Mason, Dick Crum and Pete Cordelli. His career started the fall of 1987. He was also the defensive backs coach at Ohio State University from 2005-2011 under Jim Tressel and Luke Fickell.

This will be a second coaching stint at KSU for Haynes, who was the defensive backs coach from 1999 to 2000.

He is a graduate of DeSales High school in Columbus.
