The Trent Richardson trade is only looking better and better for the Cleveland Browns.
CLEVELAND - Browns fans from all across Cleveland reacted to what happened in the 2012 NFL Draft Thursday night. Although the poll was unscientific, it's fair to say most people had a favorable reaction to the new Cleveland Brown football players introduced in Berea on Friday.
Trent Richardson was the third pick in the NFL draft and Brandon Weeden was the browns pick at 22.
"I dig the running back," said Marvin Hempstead, a barber at All State Hair Styling and Barber College on Lorain Avenue. The Browns traded up from the fourth spot to pick third in the draft. Hempstead felt the move was smart. "I think Minnesota (Vikings) would have tried to mess around and intervene."
Others inside the shop, like Kevin Adams, was unsure about the Browns pick at 22 with Brandon Weedon.
"We need somebody on the offensive line," he said, while sitting in his barber chair. Although the men argued over whether the Browns should have taken a wide receiver or lineman at 22 instead of a quarterback, they all liked the Alabama running back.
"We all agree that Trent Richardson was a good idea?" Everyone in the room began nodding their heads and saying "yes" in unison. Outside the shop, there was an interesting group of people gathered near West 25th Street with no shortage of opinions.
"I think we need a receiver," said Frank Incorvaia, of Parma Heights. He just got out of the hospital and was waiting for the bus. The one thing he was sure on was his Browns. "I got confidence in Mike Holmgren," he said of the Browns president of football operations and 1996 Super Bowl-winning coach.
Not everyone was so happy. Dene Demko was at the West Side Market.
"We are probably in the minority," she told us while having just finished up shopping. "Cleveland is a great big football place, town, and city." She's done with all the media attention the Browns are getting. "Totally sick of it. Shall I throw-up now?"
She may not like the Browns, but most of northeast Ohio seemed pumped by what was done at Radio City Music Hall in New York. It had some singing, "Here we go, Brownies here we go!"
