Hoyer trade rumors stir Browns training camp; Pettine making decision on QB starter preseason game 2

BEREA - The Browns newest quarterback Rex Grossman had not even taken his first snap with the team and already rumors of a trade that would send Brian Hoyer to Houston circulated through Browns training camp on day 14.

The rumor first came from NFL Network  and head coach Mike Pettine was asked about it after practice.

“We’re not going to comment on every story that’s out there. We made a move to strengthen our quarterback room, and you just get these stories coming out. I don’t want to be in the habit of commenting on all of them. I really addressed that situation yesterday.”

Grossman did practice for the first time and completed his first pass in the team drill portion of 11 on 11's.

Browns team owner Jimmy Haslam was also at practice Wednesday and made his way around the two hour practice talking to key members of the Browns personel team.

Haslam spoke to Josh Gordon one on one for more then ten minutes before practice and later looked to have another important conversation with Mike Pettine for several minutes before team drills to which Pettine addressed the nature of the conversation as all about "The Cleveland Weather"

The conversations between Haslam, Gordon and Pettine fueling speculation that there might be news on Gordon's pending suspension situation. The Wide Receiver did not practice again today because of a strained abdomen.

Joe Haden was also given a "veterans" day off by Pettine along with Ahtyba Rubin.

The Browns will have an off day tomorrow in which Pettine and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains will make a decision on which quarterback will start Monday in Washington.
