Hoyer and Manziel to split reps with first team

BEREA - The quarterback battle continues here in Berea between Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. Today Browns head coach Mike Pettine said both players would see equal reps with the first team against the Redskins on Monday.

"We want to make sure that they are both getting reps so we haven't decided on how to do it. We will see when we meet on the off day because there are alot of options on the table"

Pettine said the off day for the team on Thursday would be when he and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggins will sit down and decide who will start on Monday night. Loggins feels overall in the competition there is no clear cut leader.

"It's day to day and it's not really time to make that decision yet but they are both doing really good things"

The Browns also announced the signing of NFL veteran quarterback Rex Grossman. Grossman knows Kyle Shanahan's offense very well, having spent six years in his system between Washington and Houston.

"I just want to help this team win wether if it's going out there playing or helping or just being someone they can rely on that can go in the game and play"

The Browns released quarterback Tyler Thigpen and Pettine has not decided if he will keep three quarterbacks when the final roster is announced.

The Browns got some healthy bodies back to practice today, rookie corner Justin Gilbert who has been bothered by a sore groin returned today and the Browns are hopeful he will be a full go tomorrow.

Jordan Cameron who has been bothered by a sore shoulder worked a second day of practice in pads and continues to work towards being back on the lineup for Monday nights game in Washington.

The Browns also updated the teams depth chart, moving rookie fullback Ray Agnew up to number one while moving MarQueis Gray to tight end, a position he played for the team last year.

The Browns will practice tomorrow and enjoy an off day Thursday.
