Cairns: Mike Holmgren out as Browns president; former Eagles president Joe Banner to be named CEO

CHICAGO - NewsChannel5's Mike Cairns is reporting that Mike Holmgren is out as Browns president and former Eagles president Joe Banner will be named CEO/president.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam confirmed during his press conference this afternoon that current team President Mike Holmgren will step down at seasons end and will work closely with Joe Banner when he begins his new role on October 25th,

Banner will be introduced in the role Wednesday morning at 10 am in Berea.

Holmgren, a Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Green Bay Packers, took over as Browns president in December of 2009. In three seasons in the role, the Browns are 10-28. Holmgren fired Eric Mangini after the 2010 season and hired Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur as head coach.

Jimmy Haslam took control of the franchise after unanimous approval by NFL owners Tuesday morning.

Banner served as Eagles president from 2001-2012.
