Cairns Blog: Browns fall to the Ravens 25-15

CLEVELAND,OH - Browns are hoping to continue their winning ways at home when they host the Ravens this afternoon. A cold grey sky over top of the stadium, as temperature are expected to not get much higher then the low 40's today.

The big pregame news, Phil Taylor will start in his first game back. Taylor has missed the last seven weeks recovering for a torn pectoral muscle.

Ravens win the toss and defer. Browns open up with a three and out, a third and one play for the Browns and a pass play called. Weeden throwing incomplete to Alex Smith.

Ravens up up with a 70 yard scoring drive, Ray Rice runs the final 8 yards for the score. Ravens converting two third downs on the drive. Browns not able to get any pressure on Joe Flacco.

The Ravens are dominating this game here early, winning the point of attack. Joe Flacco has been getting all day behind his offensive line and Ray Rice already looks like he is off to a big day.

The Ravens go right down the field and cap off the first quarter with a 12 yard touchdown run by Bernard Pierce.

Start of the second quarter looks like a totally different Browns team, converting third downs and getting a little rythym going offensively. Browns finally take advantage of the momentum but the drive stalls and settle for a 32 yard field goal from Phil Dawson. The key play a third and nine pass play stopped by the Ravens short of the first down.

Browns get another good driving going right before the half, finished off by a Phil Dawson 28 yard field goal. Browns with back to back drives but only field goals to show for them. Browns failed to convert on a third down and eight. Trent Richardson has rushed for 74 yards so far in the first half.

The Browns put together their best drive after they held the Ravens to a three and out with 1:12 left in the first half. The Browns marched down the field in sixty seconds and got a 29 yard field goal from Phil Dawson, his third of the half. Browns have scored 9 unanswered points in the second quarter.

Browns drove right down into Baltimore territory but the drive was interrupted by a Cary Williams who returned the ball into Browns territory but the orange helmets came up with a big stop on 4th and three to force a Ravens punt and get the ball back. The Browns have had all the momentum since the second quarter but the scoreboard says other wise.

Third quarter here at Browns stadium has been slow for both squads. The Ravens had many chances to put this game away, the Browns have had many chances to get back in this and take the lead. Browns would travel 41 yards in 10 plays after failing to convert on a third and 6, settle for Phil Dawsons 4th fieldgoal of the day.

I feel like a turnover will decide this one. The Browns have given the Ravens everything they could handle here this afternoon but trading fieldgoals for touchdowns will come back to haunt you every time. If you need any reason as to why the Browns drafted Trent Richardson this is exactly the team and the type of game they were thinking of. A low scoring game where you needed to run the football and establish field position.
