Josh Cribbs and Phil Dawson are now free agents

The NFL new year started for the Browns and the teams has let  kicker Phil Dawson and Kick returner Josh Cribbs become free agent

The Browns used the franchise tag on Dawson the last last two seasons, meaning that he received an average of the top five salaries for kickers in the NFL. If the Browns wanted to franchise him for a third straight season they would have had to pay him an average of the top five salaries in the NFL.

Plenty of talk that Cribbs is close to landing a deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Dawson made 3.8 million dollars last season.

Dawson was named to his first Pro Bowl this season. The Texas native turned 38 in January. His 116 points in 2012 was the second best total of his career. He was 29 of 31 connecting on 95.5% of his field goals. He kicked his way to 120 points in with a 93.1 % success rate in 2007.

Josh Cribbs who has been a fan favorite since coming to the Browns eight years ago.  Cribbs is among the top 10 returners in the league for both punts and kickoffs, and twice has been selected to the Pro Bowl. He also has returned three punts for TDs and eight kickoffs for scores.

The Browns also have free agents Sheldon Brown, Scott Fujita, Reggie Hodges, Brandon Jackson, Josh Johnson, Kaluka Maiaiva, Mohamed  Massaquoi, Chris Ogbonnaya, Juqua Parker, Alex Smith, Ray Ventrone, Benjamin Watson, Eddie Williams.
