The Cleveland Browns cut one quarterback and signed another amid a string of player injuries.

The team announced Tuesday that it signed quarterback Kevin Hogan to the active roster and terminated the contract of Charlie Whitehurst with an injury settlement.

The Browns also signed defensive tackle Gabe Wright to the active roster and placed wide receiver Mitch Mathews on the practice squad.

Whitehurst made his debut with the Browns Sunday against the New England Patriots after Cody Kessler was injured in the first quarter.

Head Coach Hue Jackson announced Monday that quarterback Josh McCown would start practicing this week. It's unclear at this time who will start Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Hogan is a rookie out of Stanford. He was originally selected by Kansas City in the fifth round of the draft. He has spent the first five weeks of the season on the Browns’ practice squad. A native of McLean, Va., Hogan graduated from Gonzaga College High School.
