Cleveland - The Browns have signed running back Ben Tate to a free agent contract. Tate is a four year veteran who has spent his career with the Houston Texans.
Tate is a bruising back who goes 5-10 and 220 pounds. He has a career average of 4.7 yards per carry. Tate is ranked third on the Texan’s all-time rushing list with 1,992 yards in 40 games. He also played in three Houston playoff games.
Tate missed the 2010 season with an ankle injury.
Tate is the fifth free agent signed by the Browns in the past week. The Browns have not released details of the contract or how much Tate signed for.
In a photo tweeted by Tate Saturday afternoon, he is seen smiling and wearing a Cleveland Browns cap. The message with that photo said, "Let's do this, Cleveland!"
