Cavs owner Dan Gilbert reacts to Mavs winning title

CLEVELAND - Dan Gilbert promised Cleveland Cavaliers fans that they would have an NBA championship before LeBron James.

For now, that promise remains intact.

With the Dallas Mavericks 105-95 victory over the Miami Heat to clinch the title, LeBron's failed South Beach experiment proved that there is no shortcut to winning a ring.

With James reeling, Gilbert took a jab at Cleveland's former king:

"Congrats to Mark C.& entire Mavs org.," Gilbert wrote on his Twitter account. "Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all: There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE."

Gilbert's promise to Cavs came in a comic sans scripted letter, distributed soon after The Decision. In that letter, Gilbert wrote, "I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING' WINS ONE. You can take it to the bank."

Gilbert was not the only person from LeBron's Cleveland days to celebrate the Mavericks victory.

Mo Williams, who played with LeBron for three seasons and was one of the few current players to criticize how he left Cleveland, also took to Twitter:

"Dallas just healed my HEART........"

That sentiment is echoed by Clevelanders, and many basketball fans across the country.
