Cavaliers head into lottery, summer

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio - The countless injuries, brutal schedule and losing streaks are finally behind them. It's on to the NBA lottery for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Maybe they'll get lucky again.

Following a 21-win season, the Cavs packed up and went their separate ways Friday. They'll watch the playoffs for the second straight year, but they're heading into the summer with more hope than a year ago thanks to rookie guard Kyrie Irving.

The No. 1 overall pick in last year's draft, Irving proved to be worthy of his selection. He averaged 18.5 points and 5.4 assists for the Cavs, who ended the season with eight players on their roster who played in the NBA's Developmental League at some point this season.

Irving is expected to be named the league's top rookie next week.
