Indians put Zack McAllister on DL, recall Carlos Carrasco

DETROIT - The Cleveland Indians are putting right-hander Carlos Carrasco on the mound before he is forced to sit.

"Maybe we can knock out this suspension," Indians manager Terry Francona said Saturday before Carrasco's start against the Detroit Tigers.

Carrasco can pitch while he appeals an eight-game suspension. That appeal might be dropped soon after he pitches in Detroit. Major League Baseball suspended him in April for "intentionally throwing" at New York's Kevin Youkilis.

Carrasco was 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA at Triple-A Columbus. He started nine games and earned a save in one relief appearance.

He was recalled when the Indians put right-hander Zach McAllister on the 15-day disabled list.

McAllister is on the DL, retroactive to June 3, because his right middle finger is sore.

"It's considered a sprain, and we don't want it to get worse," Francona said.

McAllister is 4-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 11 starts.
