Savage: Bentley Out For Season With Torn Tendon

The news isn't good out of Browns headquarter this afternoon.

General Manager Phil Savage announced in a press conference that because of a torn patella tendon, LeCharles Bentley will be out for the season.

Bentley was carted off the field during practice at the Cleveland Browns training camp in Berea Thursday morning.

NewsChannel5's John Chandler said the knee injury occurred on a basic running play. He said he was on the ground for about four minutes grabbing his left leg.

Savage said that this is a setback for a team that has already dealt with many injuries. He said that this setback will force the team to look at other options for their offensive line.

Bentley is facing surgery for his torn tendon on Friday.

Savage said while this is a major setback, he is not going to buy into the "woe is me" mentality.

Bentley was acquired in free agency from New Orleans.

Bentley, a Cleveland native, is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and The Ohio State University.

Other reports indicate Bentley screamed, "No," before remaining on his knees as the Browns moved their scrimmage up the field so the 6-foot-2-inch, 309-pounder could be attended to.

Bentley covered his face with a towel on the short drive to the field house as Browns players and fans looked on in shock.
