Tim Couch Talks About Family, Making An NFL Comeback

UPDATED: 10:13 am EDT July 17, 2006

Former Browns quarterback Tim Couch, with his wife and child by his side, agreed to break his silence with only 5 On Your Side sports director Chris Miller.

"I bought this my last year in Cleveland. Just wanted a place to get away in the offseason," Tim Couch said about his home in southern Florida.

He is miles away from the fans, media and critics that scrutinized every move of his five years in Cleveland.

The one thing he said he can't escape are the injuries that have plagued his entire career, NewsChannel5's sport director Chris Miller reported.

Couch Talks About Future

"The shoulder I've had some problems with. I've had two surgeries. I'm rehabbing again, trying to get to play again," Couch said.

Two-and-a-half weeks after rotator cuff surgery, Couch still can't lift his arm above his head. What drives him to go through something as painful as rehab three days a week can be seen in the eyes of his 11-month old son Chase.

"He's definitely dad's boy," Couch said.

Spending time with Tim and his wife Heather, it's easy to see that marriage, fatherhood and three years away from the NFL have made him appreciate life outside the huddle.

"He's tamed down quite a bit, got his priorities straight," said Heather Couch.

She has been with Tim through many of his battles.

"Whenever people say bad things about the person you love, it makes you feel bad inside," Heather said. "That's what I did because northeast Ohio was kind of home to you, it was kind of twofold, the pain you felt leaving home. Fans are fans. They see black and white. What do you want people to know about Tim? They are No. 1 to him.

At 28 years old, Tim is a family man, but he still has a strong competitive streak, Miller reported. Even though he won't even be able to throw a football for six months, he is focused on getting back in the game.

"I really want him to have a second chance for Chase to see him play. That would be great," Heather said.

On Monday at 6 p.m. on NewsChannel5, Miller talks with Couch about why he wants to make a comeback after bankrolling $25 million.
