AKRON, Ohio -- The mother of Cavaliers forward LeBron James said she's not guilty of charges against her.

Gloria James, 37, did not appear in court Monday, but her lawyer filed papers entering her plea to DWI and disorderly conduct charges.

In James' old Akron neighborhood, people who know her personally said it's what she does when the cameras are not rolling that really defines her.

"We can call her point blank and say Gloria, 'We need you for this. We need to talk to you about this.' And if it's anything involving the youth, she's there," said Michael Starks with the Summit Lake Neighborhood Association.

James was arrested Friday night after off-duty police officers saw her weaving in and out of traffic.

Police said she struggled with officers who attempted to put handcuffs on her and yelled obscenities.

Once in the cruiser, police said she started to kick out the driver's side window until it came out of its frame.

She remains free on $2,500 bond.
