POSTED: 10:41 am EDT May 20, 2005

Officials have announced that Kellen Winslow Jr., tight end for the Cleveland Browns, will be charged in connection with a motorcycle crash.

The city's prosecutor said he concluded that Winslow was operating his motorcycle in willful or wanton disregard of safety. The offense is a minor misdemeanor and carries a maximum fine of $150.

Winslow will have to appear in court to answer to the charges. The court date will be set after Winslow receives a traffic citation.

Winslow crashed his motorcycle two weeks ago in the parking lot of Cuyahoga Community College in Westlake. He hit a curb doing 35 mph.

His use of a motorcycle violated standard NFL player contract language that prohibits players from engaging in dangerous activities.

Winslow underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday at the Cleveland Clinic.

The Plain Dealer reported that he is out for the season because he will need reconstructive surgery to repair his ACL.
