But fans may have to wait until the Winslow family is ready to release that official information, NewsChannel5 reported. The club has not received authorization from Winslow, 21, to disclose any of the injuries the tight end sustained when he crashed his motorcycle on May 1. NFL sources have told ESPN that there appears to be damage to Winslow's right anterior cruciate ligament and possibly his kneecap. ACL tears require nine to 12 months to heal, WEWS reported.
The Plain Dealer is reporting Thursday that Winslow will miss the entire 2005 season. The paper said that he will need reconstructive surgery to repair his ACL. Winslow underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday at the Cleveland Clinic. He could be waiting to get a second opinion before discussing the extent of his injuries. Winslow has already had two surgeries on his right leg from when he broke it last September, and any injury to his right knee is potentially very damaging.
ESPN said that the Browns have braced themselves for bad news on Winslow, who they say could miss the entire season. Winslow crashed his motorcycle two weeks ago in the parking lot of Cuyahoga Community College in Westlake. He hit a curb doing 35 mph. His use of a motorcycle violated standard NFL player contract language that prohibits players from engaging in dangerous activities. Winslow could also be charged with reckless operation, which carries a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine. Training camp opens in July.
