BEREA, Ohio -- The Browns held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to address the condition of Kellen Winslow Jr. after his motorcycle crash, his recovery thus far and his future ability to play with the team.
.
Because the tight end's injuries are not football-related, the team refused to say anything about the extent of the injuries, but said he is on the road to recovery.
SLIDESHOWS: Winslow Leaves Hospital |Winslow's Motorcycle AccidentNewsChannel5's Chris Miller reported that team officials expressed their disappointment in Winslow for getting on a motorcycle in the first place, but it was made clear that the Browns have no thoughts of releasing Winslow at this time.
Browns President John Collins, head coach Romeo Crennel and General Manager Phil Savage all spoke at the news conference.
Collins said that Winslow's right knee continues to be the main concern as far as his ability to play goes. He made it clear that right now, there is no timetable for Winslow's return to play.
Collins also said that the Browns will not discuss the specifics of contracts and whether Winslow's actions violated the terms of his contract.
Collins said that the event of Winslow's injury are not in any way interrupting the team's preparations for next season.
Coach Crennel reiterated what he said earlier this week, that he is happy to say that Winslow is on the road to recovery. He said the team's main concern is for the health of its players.
Crennel pointed out that when Winslow left the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday, he was on crutches and is able to get around.
"He just got out of the hospital yesterday, and he's in here this morning, recovering," said Crennel. "That shows you a little about his attitude -- that he's going to try to get back and show everybody that he is a football player."
Winslow was hospitalized for nine days following the accident. A NewsChannel5 source close to the Winslow story said the motorcycle accident left Winslow with a broken tibia and femur, the large bone in his thigh. His ACL was damaged, possibly torn and there are lacerations on his liver and kidney.
Police are continuing to investigate the motorcycle crash. No charges have been filed at this point.
Team officials said they will have more information after further evaluation of Winslow's injuries, in the next seven to 10 days.
