Winslow Suffers Internal Injuries After Accident

Photos Released Of Motorcycle

POSTED: 7:46 am EDT May 3, 2005

Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. remains hospitalized Tuesday morning after being thrown from his motorcycle, NewsChannel5 reported.

Winslow crashed his motorcycle Sunday night in the parking lot of Cuyahoga Community College in Westlake.

He has internal injuries and swelling in his right shoulder and knee.

Winslow complained of chest pains after he was injured, and he is being treated at the Cleveland Clinic by the team's medical staff, Browns spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said.

SLIDESHOW: Winslow's Motorcycle Accident

His father, Kellen Winslow, Sr., is by his side at the hospital.

Police released photographs of the damaged bike. They said Winslow went flying over the handle bars.

The skid marks remain the parking lot, where the accident happened.

Winslow told police he was testing out his 2005 Suzuki GSX-R750 when he lost control. He purchased the bike last month.

He was wearing a helmet, but it wasn't strapped on and it flew off, WEWS reported.

He landed in a landscaped area at the edge of the parking lot, falling hard enough to tear out a small tree.

He and four other men were riding motorcycles in the parking lot, not far from Winslow's home in suburban Cleveland. No alcohol was involved.

He could face charges of reckless operation and operating without a valid driver's license because he didn't have a learner's permit.

Winslow broke his right fibula last season during a September game against Dallas and ended up sitting out the rest of the season.

Neither the team nor his agent would comment on whether there was any language in Winslow's contract regarding extreme activities.

Miller reported that because there is a history of athletes injuring themselves in extreme activities, many contracts state something about it.
