Football Game Ends With Heartwarming Touchdown

Teams, Coaches Allow Player To Score

An incredible story developed from the Northwestern-Dalton eighth grade football game in Wayne County Thursday night.

Northwestern has a boy on the team named Colin Muetzel. He had some trouble at birth and now walks with a limp. He was the water boy, but was cleared by doctors to play with no contact allowed.

He had dressed in his helmet and shoulder pads for every practice, hoping to get a chance to play.

The Dalton coaches agreed to let him run for a couple of 5-yard gains since they were down 30-0 with just a couple minutes to play. After both plays, two to three Dalton players would go over and tap his helmet saying, "Good job."

"With 1:30 left, we instructed our quarterback to take a knee. After the first knee, the Dalton coaches called a timeout and summoned me onto the field. The coach said, 'Let's let him score,'" said coach Gary Edwards.

And 35 yards later, there wasn't a happier kid on the field than Colin.

As he finished off his run, every Dalton player that was on the field and followed Colin into the end zone, gathered around him and congratulated him.

"The players and coaches put aside the score and made a moment that will last a lifetime for Colin. This made Colin's season," said Edwards.

Colin hopes to play again next year, if doctors allow it.

"What a display of sportsmanship," Edwards said.
