2006 New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, Cleveland Browns safety Sean Jones and Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri were selected as the AFC's top players for Week 8 of the NFL season.Johnson earned the offensive honor with a four-touchdown performance in a 35-28 win over Seattle. He ran a franchise-record 39 times for 155 yards with three touchdowns and added a pair of receptions for 26 yards with another score. Included in his effort was the winning touchdown on a three-yard run with 1:58 remaining in the contest. Only Abner Haynes scored more touchdowns in Chiefs history with five in a 1961 game. Johnson, who is third in the NFL with 644 rushing yards and second in the league with 10 touchdowns, notched his fourth Player of the Week award. Jones garnered the defensive honor with two interceptions and five tackles in a 20-13 victory over the New York Jets. His first pick halted a Jets drive at the Cleveland 31 and the Browns capitalized with a go-ahead touchdown. The second interception came in the fourth quarter at the Cleveland 33 with the Browns holding a seven-point cushion. Tied for the league lead with four interceptions, Jones notched his first weekly award. Vinatieri did what he does best to capture the special teams award, drill a winning field goal in the closing seconds. He helped the Colts to a 34-31 win over the Broncos in Denver, kicking a 37-yard field goal with two seconds left in the contest. The 11th-year veteran is best-known for his two Super Bowl-winning field goals with New England, and has booted 19 game-winning field goals in the final minute of regulation or overtime in his career. On Sunday, Vinatieri also kicked field goals of 42, 30 and 48 yards on the way to his 10th career Player of the Week award and second this season. He also captured the honor in Week 1. Other nominees for the offensive award included New England quarterback Tom Brady, who threw for 372 yards with four touchdown passes in a 31-7 victory at Minnesota; Colts signal-caller Peyton Manning, who completed 32-of-39 passes for 342 yards against a stout Denver defense; San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson, who ran for 183 yards with a touchdown and scored on a 51-yard reception in a 38-24 win over St. Louis; and Cleveland running back Reuben Droughns, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown against the Jets. Defensive consideration went to Oakland cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who posted nine tackles and an interception that he returned 24 yards for a touchdown in a 20-13 victory over Pittsburgh; San Diego linebacker Shawne Merriman, who matched a career high with three sacks against the Rams; and Tennessee defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, who recorded nine tackles with two sacks and a forced fumble that was returned by a teammate for a touchdown in a 28-22 win over Houston. Tennessee return specialist Pacman Jones was nominated for special teams honors after a 53-yard punt return for a score, as was New England rookie Laurence Maroney, who returned a kickoff 77 yards that led to a Patriots touchdown.
