Online Police Auctions Offer Deals

POSTED: 9:25 am EDT October 9, 2008

Everyone is looking for way to save money when shopping.

NewsChannel5's Joy Benedict found some hot deals and a way to help local police at the same time.

Police departments all over the country, including Strongsville, have auction Web sites.

Items that have been seized get cleaned up, sold and shipped out to the highest bidder.

The police departments keep 30 percent of the sale.

It makes sense to use technology that the rest of the world is using to market things," said Strongsville Police Chief Charlie Goss. "Tools, electronics, clothing, furniture -- anything could end up in our property room."

All of the items Strongsville is putting up for bid were either used as evidence in past cases or abandoned.
