CLEVELAND -- Talking back, tantrums and all-around bad behavior -- sometimes even the best-behaved children can push their parents' patience to the brink. Now some local parents are taking control by calling in a professional parent coach.Jodi and Brian Adelstein have a 12-year-old, twin 9-year-olds and an 8-year-old -- all daughters. They said raising four active girls can be challenging. It is so challenging that, like a growing number of parents, the Adelsteins turned to a parent coach for answers."Discipline is probably the single most difficult thing to enforce and be consistent with," Brian Adelstein said.Jodi remembers clearly what sent her searching for help."I didn't like my daughter very much and I felt like that was the worst thing anyone could think in my head. I saw Amy and said it and thought, this isn't right. I love my daughter,” Jodi said.Amy Speidel is a trained parent coach -- and a mom herself -- who is helping parents regain control of their children. She said she’s not a "Supernanny.""This is about parent empowerment, saying you have the tools inside you to raise children given to you and bringing it forward," said Speidel. She believes this generation of parents is much more open to help. And she said asking for help doesn't make anyone less of a parent."Wisdom takes you to find solutions to problems," said Speidel. The Adelsteins said Speidel has helped them. Their family is stronger, happier and more loving than ever after starting one-on-one coaching sessions. The price for parent coaching sessions vary, but typically they run between $60 and $80 per hour.Speidel offers these tips for parents:
- The first thing is to recognize that this, too, shall pass.
- Stop and take care of yourself first. Coaches teach parents to smile, take a breath and relax.
- Ask yourself what it is you need right now. Comfort? A moment to relax?
