CLEVELAND -- How clean are the glasses you drink out of at hotels around the country? NewsChannel5 showed undercover video that highlights how some people in the hospitality business are cutting corners in a way that could put visitors' health at risk. "If I ever found out that had happened in a hotel I stayed at, I would never stay there again," said food safety instructor Nichole Burnett. Tests were done in 15 hotels in Ohio, Kansas, Missouri, Arizona, Maryland and Kentucky. Inside a hotel room at the Embassy Suites in Phoenix, a maid is seen rinsing the glasses in the bathroom and wiping them out with a rag, NewsChannel5 reported. Near Baltimore at the Intercontinental Hotel, a maid did a quick rinse and then put the glasses back to be reused, the station reported. One glass still had a lipstick smudge on the rim. In Cincinnati at the Millennium Hotel, cameras caught a maid spraying what appeared to be cleaner on the glasses. At the Embassy Suites, the maid wipes the bathroom floor with a towel using her foot and then uses the same towel to dry off the coffee pot, NewsChannel5 reported. Experts said when glasses aren't properly sanitized, they can spread disease."Things like E.coli are a possibility, even salmonella," said Burnett. Of the 15 hotels tested, 11 washed the glasses in the bathroom sink. Only four replaced the used glasses with clean ones, NewsChannel5 reported. All of the hotels investigated sent responses.
