Clear Clutter Out Of Your Home
Make Good Use Of Cabinet Space

CLEVELAND -- Do you feel like no matter what you do, your home is never organized?
One organization expert gave tips to NewsChannel5's Tracy Carloss.
The first room the expert tackled was the kitchen.
"No matter how much space or how little space you have, a good way to manage things is by leaving the products and equipment that you use frequently handy, like to the right or to the left on the counter," said Jill Ellen Shankar of Organized Planet, Inc.
Shankar said that for those items you don't use as often, try storing them in your cabinet space.
"Look for unexpected storage locations," she said. "(One) family puts storage platters and bowls on top of the microwave. Another good spot is on top of this hutch for extra serving bowls. Not only is it within reach for adults, it's far out of reach for a child."
Also, before you leave the kitchen, keep your keys in a central place so they're easy to find.
And what's the best way to organize closets?
"The general rule is to store like-things together," Shankar said. "For example, summer shoes on the door, winter shoes on the floor, pants in one area of the closet, suits together, blouses together, etc."
There is a different approach when organizing your bathroom.
"The one exception to the rule about storing like things together is in a small space like the bathroom," Shankar said. "For example, in this cabinet, his stuff is on the right, her stuff is on the left, and on the higher shelves that are more remote are the backups, the spares, like extra toothpaste, extra soap."
Another tip is to put your makeup in a see-through plastic container. That way, you can carry it around and it eliminates clutter.
