Cruz: Magazine Claimed She Cheated On Actor
Penelope Cruz is suing an Australian magazine for defamation of character after it allegedly ran a story that claimed the actress cheated on her boyfriend, actor Tom Cruise.
According to The Associated Press, lawyers for Cruz filed the suit against New Idea magazine in New South Wales Supreme Court in Sydney, Australia, Tuesday.
Cruz's lawyers claim Cruz first asked the magazine for a retraction, but when it didn't comply, they decided to seek damages. Her lawyers said, "The article is almost entirely fictitious."
The next hearing in the case is set for May 30.
Cruz, 28 started dating Cruise, 42, in 2001 after his 10-year marriage to Nicole Kidman ended in divorce. The pair appeared together in the futuristic drama "Vanilla Sky."
The actress has also starred in the films "Woman on Top," "All the Pretty Horses" and "Blow."
