SAN JOSE, Calif. -- When asked if they think 18-year-old pop sensation Britney Spears' image is too provocative for her age, half of teens polled said yes and half said no.

Brittney SpearsA recent issue of People magazine had a picture of Spears on the cover and posed the question: "Too Sexy, Too Soon?"

According to a poll conducted on AWZ.com, 46 percent of teens answered yes to the question and another 46 percent answered no. An additional 7 percent said Spears' sexy image wouldn't be an issue if she were male.

Spears has come under fire for performing in videos and concerts in tight-fitting outfits. She attended the American Music Awards ceremony wearing a jumpsuit with a necklace that plunged down near her navel.

The singer, whose debut album, "… Baby One More Time" sold 10 million copies last year, has also been dogged by rumors that she underwent a breast implant procedure at age 17.

Some parents have questioned whether Spears is a positive role model to her audience, which is mostly young girls and teens.

"Teens seem to be protective of their own, especially when attacked by what they see as the adult world," AWZ.com Managing Editor John Raess said.

More than 14,000 people responded to the poll on the teen Web site.
