A 51-year-old man is dead after failing to control his motorcycle as he attempted to go around a curve early Saturday morning, according to the Ohio Highway State Patrol.

Kevin R. Spaethe, of Akron, was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle south on the Interstate 77 on-ramp in Copley Township when he lost control of the motorcycle while attempting to go around a curve around 1:01 a.m., an investigation reveals.

Spaethe was ejected from the motorcycle. He was taken by Copley Township EMS to Akron General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the fatal crash.

Spaethe was not wearing a helmet at the time of his accident.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, troopers said.
