MADISON, OHIO -- Charges against a teenager who attacked a fellow student on a Madison Plains Local school bus have been upgraded.
According to a sheriff's report, Terry Mahoney, 17, struck a 14-year-old boy repeatedly in the face March 31 as the victim appeared to slouch in defense. The incident was caught on a bus surveillance camera.Mahoney was originally charged with assault, but the sheriff's office upgraded that charge to felonious assault after doctors determined that the 14-year-old student received a concussion and broke two bones around his eyes.

The incident occurred before school in a school parking lot on a bus filled with students.Police said Mahoney has been on house arrest since the attack, which lasted less than one minute.
Madison County sheriff's Lt. Doug Crabbe said the videotape showed Mahoney punching the boy 27 times. He estimated that another 10 punches were thrown that were not seen on the tape because of obstructions. The victim's mother said she wants Mahoney charged as an adult."Yeah, he's a real man," the mother said. "He thinks he's a real man. He's not. From what I've seen, he's a coward."Mahoney allegedly told sheriff's deputies that the victim was mocking him. He allegedly said the student grabbed him and started kicking first, and that's when he started swinging. The Madison Plains Local School Board scheduled a meeting for Tuesday to decide whether Mahoney will be expelled for attacking the middle school student.
