Edwards Brings Presidential Campaign To Cleveland

Sen. John Edwards Focuses On Employment In Speech

UPDATED: 10:50 am EST February 22, 2004

The presidential candidates began their swing through Cleveland, preparing for the March 2 primary, with the visit of Sen. John Edwards Saturday.

Many came to see the man whose southern charm continues to win him support, and many who are still undecided wanted to hear about his ideas.

"We live in two different Americas (and) it doesn't have to be that way," Edwards said.

Edwards said he knows what it’s like when plants close, alluding to the recent closings in Ohio.

"I've seen what happens when plants close," Edwards said. "(I would) wake up every day in the White House fighting for these jobs."

Edwards opposes NAFTA, but says he's not putting up a closed-for-business sign on America's door.
