CLEVELAND -- The Cuyahoga County commissioners wrapped up a meeting before noon ThursdayNewsChannel5's Duane Pohlman said things got heated and tense during the meeting.Commissioner Jimmy Dimora, the subject in a federal investigation, talked for the first time since last week's indictments were handed down.Pohlman said Dimora not only showed up, he voted on spending items, even though his fellow commissioners have asked him to excuse himself. While Dimora has not been named or charged, he is at the center of the corruption case, which includes bribes of public officials, Pohlman said.Rob Frost, the chair of the Cuyahoga County Republican Party, challenged Dimora and pressed him about the commissioner's apparent conflict of interest -- voting to spend taxpayer money on contracts he may have been involved in.Dimora fired back."I'm doing my job that I was elected to do. And if I don't do my job, you'll be up here saying, 'He should be removed for not doing his job.' So, I'm doing my job," Dimora said.Dimora did not get a chance to vote on a couple of items. A cement contract at the new Juvenile Justice Center was pulled from the agenda because that contract is named in the federal indictments as a centerpiece of a bribery scheme.Frost said that Dimora should resign to restore public confidence. Dimora said he won't quit and says he would be criticized for not doing his job if he abstained from voting.
