Fudge Elected To Late Tubbs-Jones' Congressional Seat

Democrat Marcia Fudge has been elected to Ohio's 11th Congressional District, the seat formerly held by the late U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

Fudge, the mayor of Warrensville Heights, won a special primary last month to serve the final two months of Tubbs-Jones' term.

Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, was 58 when she died on Aug. 20 after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm.

Fudge is a former chief of staff to Tubbs Jones and her party's choice to succeed her. She beat Republican Thomas Pekarek Tuesday to win the seat.

If Fudge wins the special election Nov. 18, she'll be sworn in before other first-term House members elected in November, giving her an important edge in seniority.
