Several Throw Hat In Ring For Tubbs Jones' Seat

A few people have shared their interest in seeking to fill the seat of late U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

Although there had been a lot of speculation that Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones would run, he announced Wednesday morning that he will not run for the 11th Congressional District's seat.

Former Cleveland City Councilman and attorney Bill Patmon said that he will run for the seat as well as State Rep. C.J. Prentiss.

Over the weekend, Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia L. Fudge threw her hat into the ring.

Although Lawson Jones will not run, he will get a vote on who will fill the seat.

He and his wife are both members of the Democratic Executive Committee.

They and more than 300 other members are the only ones who get to decide whose name will replace Tubbs Jones on the November ballot to fill her seat in 2009.

Tubbs Jones, a Democrat who was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, died last month after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm.
