CLEVELAND -- The use of the site of an old arsenal as a war training ground is providing a boost to the local economy.

The more than 21,000 acres at the site of the old Ravenna Arsenal in northeast Ohio is now being used to prepare Ohio Army National Guard troops for combat in Afghanistan.

Workers here used to assemble munitions to aid the American war effort in World War II. Now there are plans for the Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center that include $20 million for another weapons-training range, $3.5 million for barracks and a new headquarters.

The site is expected to train twice the number of military personnel and increase the number of full-time workers.

Plans are in the works with the town of Windham and Portage county to extend water and sewer lines to accommodate future improvements.
