CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have severed ties with general manager George Kokinis, NewsChannel5's Terry Brooks confirmed. The Browns said on Monday night that the Kokinis is no longer active with the organization, but said that in the interest of protecting the parties involved they will withhold further comment. There were reports that Kokinis was escorted from the Browns training facility on Monday, although the Browns denied those reports. The firing comes one day after the Browns' 30-6 loss to the Bears, giving the team a dismal 1-7 record. Kokinis was hired in January, just two weeks after the team named Eric Mangini as its fourth coach since 1999. Following the Browns' loss in Chicago on Sunday, Browns owner Randy Lerner said he would not fire Mangini during the team's bye week. Before joining the Browns, Kokinis spent 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He spent the final six years as the team's director of pro personnel.
