Berea, OH -- (Sports Network) - Wide receiver Travis Wilson, a 2006 third-round Draft choice of the Browns, was among the players released when Cleveland reduced its roster to the 53-player maximum on Saturday.Wilson, a highly-regarded collegiate wideout at the University of Oklahoma, managed to appear in just four games - all in his rookie season of 2006 - during his Browns career. Wilson, who was inactive for all 16 games last season, had reportedly boosted his chances of making the team by recording a team-high 115 receiving yards during the preseason, but fell victim to a numbers crunch at the position. Also excised by the Browns were tight end Brad Cieslak, defensive back A.J. Davis, receiver Efrem Hill, tight end Kolomona Kapanui, defensive back Travis Key, offensive lineman James Lee, receiver Lance Leggett, linebacker David McMillan, defensive back Brandon Mitchell, linebacker Shantee Orr, linebacker Chase Ortiz, offensive lineman Jonathan Palmer, defensive back Jereme Perry, defensive lineman Melila Purcell, kicker Jason Reda, and wide receiver Steve Sanders. Notables among that group include Orr, a former starter with the Houston Texans; Perry, who was expected to contend for a key secondary job in his second stint with the team; and Purcell, a sixth-round Draft choice out of Hawaii. The Browns also waived-injured offensive linemen Derrick Morse and Marvin Philip, defensive lineman Chase Pittman, and running back Travis Thomas. Pittman was a seventh-round choice out of LSU in the 2008 Draft. Offensive lineman Lennie Friedman, who appeared in all 16 games with Cleveland a year ago, was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Cleveland will open its campaign on Sept. 7, when it plays host to the Dallas Cowboys.
