NFL Game Summary - Chicago At Cleveland

POSTED: 11:28 pm EDT August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - Caleb Hanie totaled 115 yards on 12-of-17 passing but was intercepted once, and Rex Grossman connected on 5-of-7 passes for 59 yards and a score, as the Chicago Bears edged the Cleveland Browns, 16-10, in the preseason finale for both squads.

Kyle Orton was 4-of-7 for 51 yards and an interception for the Bears (1-3), who will open their season in prime time at Indianapolis against the Colts on September 7. Adrian Peterson gained 36 yards on six carries and Brandon Rideau caught three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Ken Dorsey completed 10-of-20 passes for 92 yards with an interception for the Browns (0-4), who will begin their 2008 campaign at home against the Dallas Cowboys on September 7. Brady Quinn was 7-of-9 for 65 yards and Travis Thomas gained 70 yards on 11 carries in defeat. Jerome Harrison had seven touches for 35 yards and scored a touchdown, while adding two receptions for 22 yards.

The Browns assumed a 3-0 lead just over five minutes into the game as Phil Dawson connected on a 26-yard field goal. Harrison trotted in a one-yard touchdown to give Cleveland a 10-point cushion after 15 minutes of football.

In the second quarter, Grossman connected with Rideau on a 19-yard score and Robbie Gould nailed a 48-yard field goal as the half expired to knot the contest at 10 heading into the break.

Gould knocked down a 29-yard kick to give the Bears a 13-10 lead midway through the third quarter.

With Cleveland down three points on fourth-and-two from the Chicago 13, and a little over seven minutes left in the game, Charles Ali went up the middle and fumbled. Leonard Peters recovered for the Bears, though the call was challenged and reversed.

Still, the Browns couldn't convert another fourth-and-two from the two-yard line, as Dorsey's pass fell incomplete. Cleveland later got the ball back with 2:34 remaining -- still down three -- but Dorsey's first pass of the drive was picked off by Chicago's Trey Brown.

The Bears took over at the Cleveland 32-yard line, and Gould booted a 46-yard field goal with 30 seconds left for six-point advantage to help seal the win.

The Browns have suffered through an injury-plagued preseason, one that has knocked quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion), wide receiver Braylon Edwards (foot), safety Sean Jones (knee), running back Jamal Lewis (hamstring) and return man Joshua Cribbs (ankle), among others, out for extended stretches.
