Redskins Acquire Dolphins' Taylor To Fill DE Void

POSTED: 7:41 pm EDT July 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins filled the void left by Phillip Daniels' season-ending injury by trading for star defensive end Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins.

In exchange for Taylor, Miami will receive Washington's second-round selection in 2009 and sixth-round pick in 2010.

Taylor, 33, has spent his entire 12-year career with the Dolphins, compiling 662 tackles, 117 sacks and seven interceptions.

In 2006, Taylor was named the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year when he had 60 tackles, 13.5 sacks and two interceptions.

The University of Akron product was selected by Miami in the third round (73rd overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft. He is a six-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time first-team All-Pro selection. In 2007 he was selected to receive the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

In a press conference in early June, Taylor announced he will play just one more season and expressed his willingness to accept a trade if it was in the best interest of the Dolphins organization.

Daniels will miss the entire 2008 season after tearing a left knee ligament during the first practice of training camp over the weekend. From the defensive end position, he totaled 37 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks in 15 games last year.
