Redskins Sign WR Thomas

POSTED: 1:24 pm EDT July 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins signed wide receiver and second-round draft pick Devin Thomas on Friday.

According to a Washington, D.C. newspaper, the deal is for four years and a maximum of $4.8 million, with a $2.75 million signing bonus.

Thomas was the Redskins' 34th overall pick in the 2008 draft out of Michigan State. The fleet-footed wideout caught a school-record 79 balls for a Big Ten best 1,260 yards, leading the Spartans with eight TD receptions. He also set a conference mark with 1,135 kickoff return yards.

The 2,590 all-purpose yards ranks second in Big Ten annals to Penn State's Larry Johnson, who racked up 2,655 yards of offense in 2002.

To make room on the roster, the club released fullback Pete Schmitt.

Washington now has nine of its 10 draft picks under contract. Only wide receiver Fred Davis, another second-round pick, remains unsigned.
