Redskins Sign Safety Schweigert

POSTED: 2:13 pm EDT June 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins signed free agent safety Stuart Schweigert, the team announced on Monday.

To make room for Schweigert, the Redskins released linebacker Rian Wallace.

The 27-year-old Schweigert recorded a career-high 107 tackles in 2006 with Oakland. His production decreased in 2007 when he recorded just 69 tackles to go with two interceptions after losing his starting job late in the season.

Schweigert played four seasons in Oakland before being released on May 21. For his career he has made 42 starts in 63 games, recording 315 tackles, four interceptions and 18 passes defended.

Oakland selected Schweigert out of Purdue in the third-round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
