Philadelphia, PA -- (Sports Network) - Clinton Portis gained 145 yards on 29 carries with a touchdown, and the surprising Washington Redskins came back to stun the Philadelphia Eagles, 23-17. A week after upending the Cowboys 26-24 in Dallas, the Redskins (4-1) rallied from an early 14-0 deficit to defeat the Eagles (2-3) in Philadelphia. "We have veteran players who know it's a long game and I told them not to get down when the score is lopsided, and they stayed with what they had to do," said Redskins head coach Jim Zorn. Jason Campbell completed 16-of-29 passes for 176 yards for Washington, which has won four in a row since dropping its opener to the New York Giants. Chris Cooley had eight catches for 109 yards and a score, and Antwaan Randle El had a touchdown pass for Washington, which also dominated on defense despite missing starters Jason Taylor, Shawn Springs, and Marcus Washington. Brian Westbrook returned to the lineup for the Eagles but managed only 33 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, and six catches for 51 yards. Donovan McNabb completed 17-of-29 passes for 196 yards for Philadelphia, which has dropped two straight. DeSean Jackson had a 68-yard punt return for a score for the Eagles, who are in last place in the NFC East. The Redskins offense went to its bag of tricks to take the lead in the third quarter. After Randle El's 16-yard reception on 3rd-and-9 kept the drive alive, the receiver took the handoff on a 1st-and-10 at the Eagles 18 and ran right. Randle El threw on the run, hitting Cooley in stride, and Cooley broke a tackle and ran in for the 18-yard scoring reception, and a 16-14 Redskins lead with 8:08 to play in the third. Eagles head coach Andy Reid challenged the play, hoping that Randle El passed the line of scrimmage before making the throw, but replay upheld the score. A personal foul on Eagles special teamer Tank Daniels on a punt set the Redskins up at the Philadelphia 43 late in the third quarter, and Portis and the Redskins offensive line took control. Portis gained 27 on 3rd-and-1, and two plays later he ran in untouched for a four-yard TD run, extending Washington's lead to 23-14 six seconds into the fourth quarter. A 40-yard reception by Reggie Brown moved the Eagles to the Washington 23 later in the fourth, and Philadelphia moved to the two-yard-line after a nine- yard catch by Brown. The Eagles' goal-line struggles continued, though, as Westbrook was stuffed on consecutive plays, and Philadelphia had to settle for a 23-yard David Akers field goal, cutting the Redskins lead to 23-17 with 7:18 to play. Philadelphia was stopped on four goal-line plays late in its 24-20 loss to the Bears last Sunday. The Eagles never got the ball back, though, as Portis pushed for a three-yard gain on a 4th-and-1 at the Philadelphia 38-yard-line just before the two minute warning. The Eagles were out of timeouts, and Washington ran the rest of the clock off. The Redskins rushed for 203 yards to only 58 by the Eagles, and won the time of possession 34:45 to 25:15. "We need to change this thing around, obviously. The last two weeks haven't been good weeks," said Reid. "We've got to play more consistent." Westbrook and the Eagles marched 80 yards on 12 plays to start the game, and Westbrook burst through the middle for a nine-yard TD run, and a 7-0 Eagles lead with 8:26 left. Jackson struck for the second Eagles score less than a minute later. The rookie took the ball at the Philadelphia 32, ran right, reversed field and found 68 yards of open room to his left. A flag was thrown on the play, but the referees picked it up, and Jackson's first career return touchdown gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead with 7:47 to play in the quarter. The Eagles drove to the Washington 32 late in the first quarter, but stalled there, and struggling kicker Akers hooked a 50-yard field goal try badly to the right. Akers missed two field goals in the loss to the Bears, and has missed nine consecutive kicks from 45 yards or longer, dating back to Week 4 of 2007. The Redskins took advantage of the good field position, moving to the Eagles 23 before stalling. Shaun Suisham nailed a 41-yard field goal to get Washington on the board with 12 minutes left in the second quarter. Suisham added a 48-yard field goal with 1:56 left, and a quick three-and-out by the Eagles offense gave Washington another chance to put up points. Campbell hit Cooley for gains of 12 and 17 yards, the latter setting up Suisham's 50-yard field goal with two seconds left in the half, cutting the Eagles lead to 14-9 at the break.Game Notes:When Portis rushes for 100-plus yards, his teams are 30-9...Jackson's punt return score was the first for the Eagles since Westbrook had one against the Giants on October 19, 2003...It was Randle El's fourth career TD pass...Cooley has 28 touchdowns since 2004, the most in the NFC among tight ends..Campbell has not thrown an interception this season...Brown gained 84 yards on four catches for the Eagles.
