Eagles Bring Back Veteran DT

POSTED: 2:50 pm EDT June 13, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Eagles signed veteran defensive tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen to a one-year contract Friday.

The 6-foot-4, 299-pound von Oelhoffen suited up for eight games -- one start -- in the 2007 campaign, recording four tackles in his first season with the Eagles.

A sixth-round selection in the 1994 draft by Cincinnati, von Oelhoffen has compiled 399 tackles, 26 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries during his 14-year career. He has spent seasons with the Bengals (1994-99), the Pittsburgh Steelers (2000-05) and the New York Jets (2006).

The 37-year-old's most productive season came in 2003 with the Steelers, when he tallied 40 tackles and eight sacks.

In other roster news, Philly signed guard Mike Gibson and linebacker Andy Studebaker -- both sixth-round picks in the 2008 Draft -- to four-year contacts. In slimming down the roster, the club released linebackers Gary Butler and Markell Staffieri, defensive linemen Jeremy Clark, Xzavie Jackson, LaJuan Ramsey, and A.J. Schable, cornerback Tanard Davis, receiver Terrell Golden, and quarterback Casey Hansen.
