Saints, Pats Swap Top-10 Picks

POSTED: 4:27 pm EDT April 26, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots pulled off a draft-day trade that allowed the Saints to move up three spots in the first round, from tenth to seventh.

New Orleans sent the tenth-overall pick and a third round choice to New England in exchange for the seventh-overall pick and a fifth-round selection.

The Saints made the move to pick up USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, considered the second best player at his position in the draft behind LSU tackle Glenn Dorsey, who went fifth overall to the Kansas City Chiefs.

New England, which forfeited its original first-round pick due to the Spygate scandal, added youth to its linebacking corps with Tennessee linebacker Jerrod Mayo.
