Titans Edge Pack In Preseason Finale

POSTED: 2:46 am EDT August 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Matt Flynn's two-point conversion pass as time expired fell incomplete, and the Tennessee Titans held on to top the Green Bay Packers, 23-21 in each club's final preseason tuneup before the regular season opener.

Vince Young and a majority of Tennessee's starters played extended minutes, as the third-year quarterback completed just 13-of-27 for 134 yards, while rushing for 57 yards on three carries for the Titans (3-1). LenDale White rushed for 55 yards on 16 carries, and Justin McCareins compiled a game-high 79 receiving yards on three catches.

Aaron Rodgers needed just one play to show the Packer faithful he's ready for the regular season, hooking up with Greg Jennings on a 68-yard touchdown pass on the game's first snap. Flynn finished with 77 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 8-of-13 efficiency for Green Bay (1-3). Starting running back Ryan Grant did not play in the contest.

Tennessee answered the Rodgers-to-Jennings hookup by rattling off 23 straight points. Two short field goals from John Vaughn preceded Vincent Fuller's 40- yard TD run midway through the second quarter, and a 24-yarder by Vaughn three minutes later gave the Titans a 16-7 lead at the break.

Chris Johnson capped a 14-play, 80-yard drive to open the second half with a one-yard touchdown plunge for Tennessee, but Flynn hit Brett Swain on a six- yard touchdown late in the third quarter to make it a one possession game.

Flynn led the Packers down the field on the last drive of the game, finishing off the 13-play, 85-yard jaunt with a 22-yard pass to Jake Allen in the end zone as time expired, but the two-point conversion fell incomplete.

The Titans open the regular season at home against Jacksonville on September 7, while Green Bay begins the post-Brett Favre era hosting Minnesota on Monday Night Football.
