Cowboys Say Jones Will Play Sunday; NFL Gathering Information

POSTED: 5:47 pm EDT October 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Cowboys won't discipline cornerback Adam Jones after he was involved in an altercation with a personal security guard at a Dallas hotel early Wednesday morning.

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Thursday he expects Jones to play Sunday when Dallas visits Arizona, and owner Jerry Jones said the NFL was informed of the incident that has been blown out of proportion.

Jerry Jones said Adam Jones and his personal security guard were kidding around and got into an argument that "went a little too far. It went over the boundary. They resolved it and went home."

Police were called to the hotel, but there were no arrests and no charges filed.

"They got in a disagreement over how [the security] was working," Jerry Jones said. "We are working very hard to keep these incidents to a minimum."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told ESPN radio on Thursday that the league is in the process of gathering information.

"We're trying to determine all the facts," Goodell told ESPN radio. "It's clear there was some type of incident."

Goodell reinstated Adam Jones, formerly known as "Pacman," after a one-year suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Jones, then with the Tennessee Titans, had numerous run-ins with the law in just two NFL seasons, including an alleged involvement in a shooting at a Las Vegas strip club during the NBA's All-Star weekend in February 2007. That incident left an employee of the club paralyzed from the waist down.

Jones, as part of his reinstatement, is expected to refrain from any behavior that puts him, his team or the league in a negative light.

"I'm disappointed we're even discussing this at this time," Goodell told ESPN radio. "We'll have to wait for the facts and wait before we make any determination."

The 25-year-old Jones was dealt from the Titans to the Cowboys in late April in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.
