Falcons Sign DT Jackson Amid Other Roster Moves

POSTED: 3:55 pm EDT July 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms with veteran defensive tackle Grady Jackson on Tuesday, and made a number of other roster moves.

The teams also placed cornerback Von Hutchins on injured reserve, released defensive lineman David Patterson and signed cornerback Glenn Sharpe.

Jackson, 35, was released by the Falcons seven games into the 2007 season and spent the remainder of the campaign with Jacksonville. He totaled one sack and 30 tackles between the two teams.

An 11-year veteran, Jackson has competed in 155 games with the Oakland Raiders (1997-2001), New Orleans Saints (2002-03), Green Bay Packers (2003-05), Atlanta (2006-07) and Jacksonville, and amassed 507 tackles with 33 1/2 sacks, eight forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Hutchins played in 16 games -- 15 starts -- for the Houston Texas last season and had one interception with 93 tackles. The Mississippi product signed with the Falcons as a free agent in March. In 38 games over four NFL seasons with Indianapolis and Houston, Hutchins has 149 tackles and two picks.

Patterson signed with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent in May 2007, but the Ohio State product spent the season in the injured reserve list with a foot injury.

Sharpe, a Miami-Florida product, signed with the Falcons in April as an undrafted rookie free agent, but was waived in July.
