NFL Preseason Preview - Buffalo (0-0) At Washington (1-0)

POSTED: 1:11 pm EDT August 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins will try to build off their impressive first preseason showing this Saturday night, when Jim Zorn and company play host to the Buffalo Bills at FedEx Field.

The Redskins were 30-16 winners in the Hall of Fame Game from Canton, OH last Sunday night, with a trio of Washington quarterbacks looking remarkably comfortable in their initial action within first-year head coach Zorn's scheme.

Starter Jason Campbell, who missed the late stages of 2007 with a knee injury, was an impressive 5-of-5 for 61 yards and a touchdown in limited time. Backup Todd Collins was 5-of-6 for 32 yards in relief of Campbell, but the story of the night might have been third-stringer and sixth-round Draft choice Colt Brennan.

Brennan, the former University of Hawaii star, completed 9-of-10 passes for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lift the Redskins to the win in the game's final stages.

While seeking continued develop from his quarterbacks, Zorn will also be keen to witness the exploits of running back Clinton Portis.

Portis did not play on Sunday for precautionary reasons, but is expected to participate in at least one series against the Bills. The former Pro Bowler rushed for 1,262 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Redskins last season.

Meanwhile, the Bills and first-year offensive coordinator Turk Schonert will try to look as sharp as its Washington counterpart did last Sunday.

Schonert, who takes over for the departed Steve Fairchild (now head coach at Colorado State), will be seeking to breathe some life into an offense that ranked just 25th in the league in rushing and 29th in passing a year ago.

Attempting to lead the attack to greater heights is second-year quarterback Trent Edwards, who should see brief action against the Redskins before yielding to backups J.P. Losman and Gibran Hamdan.

Rookie wideout James Hardy, a second-round pick out of Indiana, will make his first appearance with the offense as well. Cornerback Leodis McKelvin (1st Round, Troy) is slated to make his debut with the Bills defense.

On the injury front for Buffalo, wide receiver Josh Reed (back), safety Donte Whitner (ankle), and linebacker Angelo Crowell (knee) will all be held out for Dick Jauron's squad.

The Redskins hold a 6-5 edge in their all-time preseason series with the Bills, breaking a deadlock in the series with a 20-19 triumph in the last such matchup, prior to the 1999 season.

Buffalo was a 17-16 road winner when the clubs met at FedEx Field last Dec. 2nd, in a game that was played just days after the murder of Redskins safety Sean Taylor.

The most memorable contest between the Bills and Redskins was Super Bowl XXVI, won by Washington, 37-24, in Minneapolis.
